China Grove Animal Hospital

Carol M. Bachman
Office Manager
Carol was born and raised in God's country San Diego, California. She graduated from San Diego State with a credential to teach elementary school. The most important part of her life then was racing sailboats on the college team and at Mission Bay Yacht Club. She married Steve, also a sailor, and together they raced sailboats for another 35 years, placing in national and world championships.

Carol has lived in California, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Maryland and North Carolina, moving to accommodate Steve's Master's Degree and various promotions. Maryland was her longest stay, at 30 years, where she and Steve raised 3 wonderful children. Carol taught elementary school for 8 years, sold real estate and did some temporary office work. She fell in love with gardening, and has been transplanting things ever since.

After moving to Welcome, NC, in 1994, she was an office manager for a Val-Pak franchise, and later for a mobile solvent recycling firm. In 2000, she began working part time for an animal hospital in Winston-Salem where she met Dr. Vaughan and they began trading garden plants and tips. When he bought China Grove Animal Hospital, Carol agreed to help with accounts payable, and is now the Office Manager. She enjoys her co-workers and our great clients; and looks forward to CGAH's continued growth!

In her "spare" time, Carol enjoys singing in the church choir, and traveling to visit her children in Georgia, Tennessee, and Perth, Australia. She is a lucky grandma to Jack, now 4 years old. She can usually be found with a book or a garden trowel in hand!

Kathryn "Bailey" Wingler
Receptionist

Born and raised in Davidson County, Bailey is a. North Carolina native. She grew up in a small town called Midway, which got its name because it is located half way between Winston-Salem and Lexington. Can you believe that to this day, Midway does not even have it's own post office! Bailey attended the prestigious Salem Academy, which is an all girls private school located on the same campus as Old Salem and Salem College. Home of the infamous Moravian sugar cookies!!!

Upon graduating she moved to Charlotte, to study Spanish and Social Work at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. While residing in Charlotte, Bailey worked as a Habilitation Technician and provided therapy to children with Autism. She later met her husband, Dustin, who builds stock cars for Roush Racing. Dustin, who was born and raised right here in Landis, encouraged Bailey to return to her small town roots. Once she acknowledged her intense desire to work with and help animals, Bailey found her way to China Grove Animal Hospital. She worked as part of our front office staff for just over a year and often greeted you and your pet as you entered the lobby.  Because she is expecting a new baby boy, Bailey is currently working from home.  She and Dustin live in Salisbury and are owned by a beautiful American Pit Bull Terrier named Petey and his feline companion, Maynard.

Michelle D. Franko
Receptionist

Michelle was born in Lockport, NY and moved to the Irish Hills of Michigan when she was two years old. By the age of 4 she was learning to cook authentic Hungarian dishes at the family owned restaurant, Grez's Hungarian Village, in Detroit, Michigan. She is a graduate of Riverview Community High School where she played flute and trumpet in the marching, symphony and jazz bands, ran track & field and played volleyball.

Upon completing her undergrad work at Wayne State University Michelle furthered her education at the Kresge Eye Institute and obtained her diploma as a Certified Ophthalmic Technician. Michelle continued working in the great state of "Maize and Blue" until 1988 when she moved to Las Vegas, NV to join Ophthalmic Associates and, later, the Shepherd Eye Center.

In Las Vegas Michelle continued her quest for knowledge at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas expanding her major in English. She became the director of the Southwest Eye Procurement Center, a division of the Nevada Donor Network obtaining the following certificates: Certified Eye Bank Specialist, Certified Bone Bank Specialist and Certified C-LASIK Operator, and had her first paper published in the "Journal of Ophthalmic Technicians". Michelle also continued her tennis career while in Las Vegas, playing for the Desert Inn tennis team.

In 1995 Michelle left the rugged west to return to the sultry south moving to Stone Mountain, Georgia where she spent seven years working with the ophthalmologists of Eye Physicians & Surgeons. It was then that she began working with exotic birds and opened Blue Moon Aviaries. Michelle was published again in "Bird Talk" magazine for an article that she wrote on her African Grey Parrot, Bouncer.

After over 20 years in human medicine Michelle crossed over veterinary medicine in 2004 when she moved to Kannapolis, NC. She has been with China Grove Animal Hospital since June of 2004. You will see her as you walk in the door, greeting you and your pet. You may also find Michelle doing various technician tasks, assisting Dr. Vaughan and doing laundry (yes, we all take turns washing and folding).

Michelle is currently owned by 2 American Staffordshire Terriers (Rosie & Miracle) and 2 Congo African Grey Parrots (Bouncer & Noel aka; Peep Peep). She enjoys playing tennis, gardening, cross-stitch and wildlife observation. Michelle has one brother, Alex, who is a physician in Michigan. Her grandmother still lives in Riverview and her mother is currently an Optician in Las Vegas.

Debbie L. Lasker
Veterinary Technician

Debbie has been a Veterinary Technician for 22 years. She has traveled the country since she was 3 years old. Debbie is a graduate of Mount San Antonio College in Walnut, California. After graduation, her next move was an easy decision. She completed a 1-year internship at the Animal Medical Center in Manhattan. Living in the hospital and being on call every 3rd night proved to be very beneficial in her pursuit of Emergency Medicine. Debbie has also studied Oncology, Surgery, Ophthalmology and Dentistry. When her internship was over, she began working in the critical care unit at Tufts University in North Gafton, MA. Debbie has always enjoyed traveling. She made her way to Portland, ME and then to Lancaster, NY where she worked at a strictly feline practice.

After seeing the country, Debbie finally made her way to Salisbury, NC where she has lived and worked for 8 years. Debbie is the proud mother of two strapping sons. At 10 and 11 years old, they are already avid animal lovers. Debbie has surrounded them with animals and they have even done some odd jobs around various veterinary practices. Her "Home Zoo" consists of 4 dogs, 2 cats and a Teddy Bear Hampster. She and her 2 sons hope to someday live on a small animal farm!

Jezebel and Delilah

Management

Jezebel and Delilah are sisters.  They have been running China Grove Animal Hospital since they were dropped off on our doorstep in April of 2003.  You will often see them in the reception area performing their everyday duties.  Jezebel oversees all the financial transactions, while Delilah works to keep all the patients under control (large dogs are her specialty.)  Their hobbies include catching mice, napping, entertaining the clients, napping, keeping the benches warm, oh and did I mention napping? Together, these two have made quite an impact our animal hospital and we look forward to many more years of working with them!
